Moving from 'legacy' Tatsu

Kyber is now the new Tatsu. The legacy Tatsu has been replaced with a new version that is more powerful and a much better member within your Slack workspace as it no longer takes over a channel when a standup is happening.

A new install is required because the new version of Tatsu requires distinct permissions as it operates a bit different.

What has changed?

1. All settings are controlled right within Slack.

   Previously, standups were scheduled and configured with the Tatsu web app.

   Now, all settings are controlled right within Slack. This includes setting up your standup schedule, adding questions, and more.

2. Standup responses are now completed in a modal.

   Previously participants could type their responses directly into the channel and Tatsu would assume those were responses to the questions being asked.

   This made us not such good citizens in the Slack ecosystem. Although convenient, there were many frustrating issues with this approach.

   Now, participants explicitly respond to a standup by clicking a button and responding in a modal. This makes it clear what is a standup response and what is not.

3. Standup reports are distributed in Slack threads.

   Previously we would email standup reports via email when the standup ended. We know a lot of users turned this off and would rather see the responses inside Slack.

   Now, standup responses are posted to the thread in Slack and easy to find within the Tatsu App Home.

   An area of focus in the near future will be getting this data out of Slack and into your other tools, which will include email.

4. More features are available to you if you want them.

   The new Tatsu has a lot more features available with the aquisition of Kyber. This includes task tracking, polls, and more.

   This provides us with a foundation of features to build on and get closer to the vision of killing more meetings with discussions.

Pricing changes for new teams

Pricing for existing Tatsu teams will stay the same.

Tatsu will remain the low price of ﹩1 per person per month for teams that are using or have used Tatsu in the past. However, only the syncup feature will be available for your team on the ‘Legacy’ plan.

Your plan does include new features such as multiple standups per channel but it will not include many of the features that are available in the new Tatsu.

If you want access to the new features such as the ability to track team tasks and perform polls, along with a lot planned for the new year, you can by simply moving to a new pricing plan.

The ‘Legacy’ Tatsu pricing will only be available to existing teams using Tatsu. Any new team that signs up for the new Tatsu will sign up at the new pricing.

Moving to the new Tatsu

You have probably found your way here from a link within the old ‘legacy’ Tatsu or the like. Below are the steps you need to take to move over to the new Tatsu.

You can do this at any time and it only needs to be done once per workspace.

What a does a current Tatsu team need to do?

1. Install the new Tatsu app to your workspace.

   You can do this several ways. The easiest way is to click the link below.

   Install the newest version of Tatsu

   Another option is to go to the home page and click the ‘Add to Slack’ button.

2. (Recommended) Remove the ‘Legacy’ Tatsu app from your workspace.

   The ‘Legacy’ Slack application will be shutdown once the app is removed from the Slack App marketplace. This will eliminate any communication with the ‘Legacy’ Tatsu app and your current app will no longer work.

   You can remove this legacy app in order to eliminate any confusion.

3. (Totally optional) Upgrade.

   If you want to upgrade and use the full version of the new Tatsu, go ahead. You can do this at any time.

   To upgrade, simply type /tatsu upgrade in any Slack channel and follow the prompts.

   If you find that this new version of Tatsu is not for you, just reach out and ask to switch back. We will move you back to the ‘Legacy’ plan.

What if I don’t want to move?

You do not have to do anything! However the ‘Legacy’ Tatsu will be removed from your workspace by Slack in the near future.

You can still move to the new Tatsu after the app removal as your standups were imported automatically.

Reach out to support if you want to move but you have lost the link to move.

What happens with my payment plan?

Our new platform does not have access to your payment details from ‘Legacy’ Tatsu, so you will not be automatically billed after this transition until you have been notified to add your new payment details.

If you have installed the new Tatsu app then you will will receive a notification in Slack when your payment details are required. This notification will contain a link where you can add your payment details securely.

If you have not installed the new Tatsu app, then you will not be able to receive a payment notification and Tatsu may stop working for you.

What about my data?

Your existing standups have already been imported to the new Tatsu. This will assist in transisting your team to the new Tatsu and avoid possible downtime with your project’s meetings.

Your previous standups were not imported to the new Tatsu. Please reach out to support if this is an issue for your team.

If you would like all of your existing scheduled standups to be removed, please reach out to support and we will remove all of your data for you.

1. The dashboard

   The dashboard is your home for all things Tatsu, including your current standups and the standup schedule. There is no external site required to manage your standups.

   Your standup settings, including the questions, are available from the context menu for your standup in the list of items on the dashboard.

3. Running an out of band standup

   You can run a one-off or out of band syncup whenever you want.

   Whenever your standup is scheduled to run, you will receive a notification from Tatsu in Slack.

   All status reports are posted back right to the Slack channel for anyone with access to the channel to see.
